Shitstorm is a traveling workshop program conceived and conducted by Frigoproduzioni.
The idea was born in 2021 during the Festival 20 30 from a discussion with a group of young people in their twenties and thirties about how theater should change to keep up with the times: we decided to hold a series of workshops that would address the central issues of contemporary public debate, testing the theater's ability to talk about the present, burning issues, and current events. The point is not for everyone to agree, but rather to compare different opinions and ideas and, through dialogue, build a path of collective dramaturgical creation and a final instant-show, of which the participants will be co-authors and performers, reflecting the path taken.
The first stage revolved around the question: is theater racist?
The second stage focused precisely on shitstorms, the “storms of shit” that regularly rage on social media, targeting someone, usually a public figure, who expresses a thought or opinion considered serious and unacceptable by a more or less large group of users. The aim was to understand how and why these storms are unleashed, evolve, and eventually die down, what sensitive issues are most likely to generate them, and what consequences they have on the unfortunate individuals who trigger them.
The shistorm phenomenon interests us because we believe it is becoming a model for debate even outside the social media world. Today, it sometimes seems that reality is becoming a reflection of virtual reality and not vice versa.
